Representative from Clayton county, was born January 21, 1866, on a farm near Garnavillo, Clayton county, Iowa, where his father, J. H. Schulte, still resides. He is of German descent, his parents both coming to this country when mere children. His boyhood days were spent on the farm and at the age of about nineteen he began teaching in the public schools of Iowa and continued this work while he was educating himself for his profession. During his career as a teacher he was principal of the schools of Clayton, Iowa, and Hedrick, Iowa. In 1890 graduated from the Iowa State College with the degree of Bachelor of Science and in 1891 attended the law department of the State University of Iowa. Was admitted to the bar in 1894 and is now in active practice at Elkader, Iowa. In 1908 was married to Lillian L. Bridgeford, of Jefferson, Iowa. Has always taken great interest in the affairs of his town, serving on the school board and for four successive terms as mayor. Elected Representative in 1906 and re-elected in 1908. A Democrat in politics.
