Representative from Mills county, was born in Bureau county, Illinois, in 1841, son of Israel and Ann M. Huffaker, natives of Kentucky. His father, a minister of the gospel of Christ, was of German descent, his mother of French. Attended the rural schools and Dover Academy, completing his education at the Princeton high school at Princeton, Illinois. In 1870 came to Mills county, Iowa. Was school director and treasurer for twenty years. Secured in 1879 from the Wabash, St. Louis and Pacific Railroad the location of a station on his land, the embryo town of Silver City. Has followed the occupation of farming and stock raising. Is a member of the National Live Stock Association. Was twice appointed by Governor Cummins as a delegate to the Farmers' National Congress. Is president of the Mills County Farmers' Institute. Was secretary of the Grange for ten years. Is a stockholder and director in the Silver City State Bank and was one of its founders. Was a member of the city council sixteen years, and a member of various agricultural societies of Mills county. Was married to Miss Mary J. Post, a native of Pennsylvania, December 11, 1872. Has one daughter by adoption, Birdie A. Huffaker. Elected Representative in 1908. A Democrat in politics.
