Representative from Clarke county, was born at Marietta, Washington county, Ohio, August 9, 1844. His parents were American-born. Moved with his parents to Iowa in 1855, locating in Henry county near the town of Salem. Here he acquired his education in the common schools and in the Normal School. Taught school for several terms in Henry county, when he moved to Clarke county, where he followed teaching for eight years. Quit teaching to take up farming and stock raising, which he followed successfully for some time, afterwards engaging in the nursery business. But of late years he has been engaged in farming and stock raising. Also has quite extensive ranch interest in Oregon. Has held various township offices. Was married in 1876, to Mary E. Jackson and to them have been born four sons and a daughter. Elected Representative in 1906 and re-elected in 1908. A Republican in politics.
