Representative from Plymouth county, was born November 8, 1855, in Middlesex county, Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada. His parents were both Canadian-born, his father's parents being Irish and his mother's for generations past were Canadian. Was reared on the farm and obtained a common school education in his native province. At the age of twenty-one he came to eastern Minnesota, remaining there two years, and then located, in the spring of 1879, on a farm in Plymouth county, Iowa, where he has resided continuously to this date. Has been president of the school board for a number of years, also secretary of the board for many years, and served as justice of the peace for two terms. Was appointed as census enumerator in 1900 for his home township. Served his political party as township chairman for over a dozen years past. Elected Representative in 1908 and re-elected in 1910. A Republican in politics.
