Representative from Clayton county, was born November 4, 1852, in Rock county, Wisconsin. His parents were born in Vermont. At the age of five years, he came with his parents to Clayton county, Iowa, and has lived there ever since. Was educated in the rural schools, with the exception of two years in the Monona high school. Was township clerk for eight years, member of the board of education for ten years, mayor for two years, and postmaster under Grover Cleveland's second term. Is engaged in the selling of grain and live stock. Elected Representative in 1910. A Democrat in politics.
