Representative from Story county, was born, in Ohio, January 5, 1857, of American-born parents. His parents, moved to Washington, Iowa, when he was eleven years old. He moved to Colfax in 1890 and to Ames in 1892. He was educated in the country schools and in Washington Academy. Was a farmer until twenty-eight years old when he engaged in the mercantile business. Since living in Story county he has devoted his time to farming and shipping stock. He was township assessor for six years and is a member of the Ames Commercial Club. He was president of the Chautauqua Association in 1910. Served as president of the Farmers' Institute of Story county four years, and has been an active member of the Farmers Meat Producers Association. Has always taken great interest in educational affairs and is a staunch advocate of better rural schools. Elected Representative in 1910. A Republican in politics.
