Representative from Wright county, was born of American parents at Waddington, St. Lawrence county, New York, April 21, 1859. Soon after his birth his parents moved to Ogdensburg, New York, and here Mr. Brown received his education in the public schools. Was married to Miss Elizabeth A. Canfield of Ogdensburg, July 1, 1879, and to them have been born a daughter and son. Moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, January 15, 1882, and entered the employ of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway as a fireman. Was promoted to engineer in two years which position he held for eight years when he resigned and moved to his present home at Clarion and engaged in the real estate, insurance and collection business. Served for five years as secretary of the Wright County Agricultural Society and in 1898 was elected director of the State Agricultural Society from the third congressional district. Served four years as vice-president of the State Agricultural Society. Was sheriff of Wright county from 1904 to 1909 and was president of the Sheriff's Association of Iowa for one year. He is a Knight Templar and a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory Shrine, Knights of Pythias, Modern Woodmen and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Elected Representative in 1910. A Republican in politics.
