His parents moved to Clinton county in the spring of 1865 and purchased a farm near Preston, where he resided until the spring of 1882, when he entered the Northern Indiana Normal School at Valparaiso, Indiana, where he graduated in the scientific course in the class of 1884 and in the law course in 1887. He entered the law office of Ellis and McCoy in Clinton in the spring of 1888. Was admitted to the bar in this state in October, 1888. Located at Milford in August, 1890 and engaged in law and real estate business. Married Miss Winifred Yorker, September 6, 1904. Elected Representative in 1906; re-elected 1908 and 1910. A Republican in politics.
