Representative from Woodbury county, was born July 10, 1864, on a farm near Union, Hardin county, Iowa. He is the youngest son of George and Maria Whitney. His mother, whose maiden name was Maria Row, and who was of German parentage, died at Union, Iowa, on May 7, 1904, at the age of eighty years and eight months. His father is of American-born parents. Mr. Whitney received his early education in the country schools. Remained upon the farm until he was about eighteen years of age. Taught school five years, the last year of which he was principal of the high school at Union. Attended school for two years at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa. Studied law with Hon. C. E. Albrook of Eldora. Graduated from the law department of Drake University, 1890, and in the same month went to Sioux City, to attend the republican state convention as a delegate from Hardin county. He did not return home with his delegation, but located at Sioux City, where he has since been engaged in the practice of law. A few years after locating at Sioux City, he served as justice of the peace for two terms. Became county attorney of Woodbury county, January 1, 1901, holding that position continuously for ten years. Was married October 20, 1892, to Lillian Rodwell, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Rodwell of Union, Iowa. They have three children, Martha, Craig and George. Elected representative in 1910. Re-elected in 1912. A republican in politics.
