Representative from Jefferson county, was born in Davis county, Iowa, December 9, 1869. He spent his early life on the farm and attended the rural schools. He graduated from the normal school at Bloomfield in 1888 and from the Iowa Wesleyan at Mount Pleasant in 1893. Eighteen years was spent in teaching. Served as principal of the Mediapolis and Fairfield high schools. Was superintendent of schools at Colfax and Coon Rapids. In 1903 he returned to Fairfield to accept the position of superintendent of the Fairfield schools, which position he held for six years when he entered business life. For two years he was president of the Fairfield Commercial Club, which position he held when he entered the legislature. He is an active member of the Methodist church and has for years taken a keen interest in political affairs, but has not aspired to office before. Elected representative in 1912. A republican in politics.
