Representative from Cerro Gordo county, was born in Shepley, Yorkshire, England, July 9, 1855. He came to the United States with his parents in 1866. Lived for a time at Freeport, Illinois, in 1871 moved to Monticello, Wisconsin, and in 1876 to Cerro Gordo county, Iowa. Educated in the common schools. When twelve years old he entered the employ of a woolen factory where he remained eight years. After coming to Iowa he taught school during the winter months for several years. He is engaged in farming and is president of the North Iowa Fair. Was secretary of the Portland township school board for twenty-five years. Has also been township clerk. Married in 1885 and has four sons. Elected representative in 1910. Re-elected in 1912. A republican in politics.
