After attending the country and town schools entered Drake University, graduating in 1895 in the scientific course, and then took special work for one year in the law department of the University of Iowa. Was admitted to the practice of law in 1896, and has since been a member of the firm of Hutchinson & Jacobs at Lake City, Iowa. Has been twice elected mayor of Lake City, served as city solicitor for eight years, and has been president of the board of education. Was married in 1898 to Bertha E. Coe of Woodbine, Iowa. Elected representative in 1908 and re-elected in 1910 and 1912. A republican in politics.
