Representative from Kossuth county, was born January 11, 1849, in Franklin county, New York, of American parentage. Came to Iowa in 1855, settling in Clayton county where he lived until 1869, when he removed to Kossuth county, where he has since resided. Was educated in the common schools of Clayton county, Iowa, Briggs' Academy of Garnavillo, one term at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and eight terms at the University of Iowa. Is a farmer, surveyor and drainage engineer. Has been surveyor of Kossuth county, twice by election and five times by appointment by the board of supervisors. Was county auditor of Kossuth county from 1884 to 1890. Has been married twice. Has four sons living, two of whom are graduates of Iowa College. Elected representative in 1910. Re-elected in 1912. A republican in politics.
