Representative from Cass county, was born February 1, 1854, in Lincolnshire, England, and lived there until the year 1874, when he emigrated to America, going first to Nebraska and a few months later settling in Cass county, Iowa. Mr. Smith has been a continuous resident of Pleasant township in Cass county since that time. At the age of thirty-three he united with the Methodist church of which church he has been an active member and a member of the official board. Has served for eighteen years as school treasurer and township trustee for two years. For six years he has been a member of the county board of supervisors and in the year 1914 the voters of his county sent him to the general assembly as their representative. A republican in politics.
