Representative from Worth county, was born in Norway, April 27, 1854, and immigrated with his parents to Wisconsin in 1870, having passed through the common schools of his native country. Being thrown on his own resources and feeling the need of further education, he enrolled as a student in the college department of Augsburg Seminary, Minneapolis, in 1874, and continued his studies for four years. In 1878 he came to Worth county, Iowa, and taught school for a few years. In 1882 he was married to Caroline Mellem. They have five children. Besides filling different township offices he has since 1887 been secretary of the Farmers' Mutual Insurance Company. Elected representative in 1912. Re-elected in 1914. A republican in politics.
