Representative from Clinton county, was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on June 16, 1860, on a farm. Served in the German cavalry from 1879 to 1882 and came to America in May, 1883, and has since made his home in Iowa. Engaged in the bottling and coal business in 1885 at Clinton until he sold said business February 1, 1914. Is a member of the K of P., Elks, Eagles, Turner Society and German Society; and has held office in all of same. Was president of the Iowa State Bottlers' Association and vice president of the National Association. Has served with General J. C. Loper of Des Moines, Uniform Rank K. of P. as brigade engineer, and later with General Kingsbury as brigade quartermaster, with the rank of colonel. Is affiliated with the German Lutheran church. A democrat in politics.
