Representative from Grundy county, was born in Chester, Orange county, New York, January 24, 1853. His father was born in Orange county, New York, of Huguenot parentage. His mother was born in Peekskill, New York, of Quaker parentage. Was educated in the common schools. Moved to Winnebago county, Illinois, March, 1871. Came to Reinbeck, Iowa, in February, 1880. Engaged in the general merchandise business until February, 1908. Married Miss Ella Underhill of Winnebago, Illinois, in 1874, who died in 1888. To them were born five children, three dying in infancy. Was married to Mrs. Nettie Wilson McIntyre of Reinbeck and to them has been born one son. Elected representative in 1912. Re-elected in 1914. A republican in politics.
