Representative from Winneshiek county, was born on a farm near Ossian, in said county, on April 14, 1872. His parents, Howel Powel Nicholson and Caroline (Woodward) Nicholson were natives of Crawford county, Pennsylvania, and emigrated to Iowa in April, 1855; they settled on the farm now owned by their son, the subject of this review, where they still reside. Mr. Nicholson was educated in the rural schools and the Ossian high school, being a member of the class of 1890. He has been a practical farmer since leaving school and in the later years has been secretary and manager of the Silver Springs Creamery Co., a co-operative organization of Ossian. Has always been prominent in local agricultural and dairy circles, and held the position of president of the Winneshiek county short course for several years. Has served as secretary of the school board for 15 years and at the present time is interested in the Fort Dodge Portland Cement Company of Gilmore City, Iowa. On October 19, 1892, he was united in marriage to Margaret Harvey of Ossian, Iowa. In fraternal societies Mr. Nicholson is a member of Arcturus Lodge No. 237 A. F. & A. M. and also of the Modern Woodmen. He was elected to the legislature from the ninety-first district on November 3, 1914. Re-elected in 1916. A republican in politics.
