Representative from Marshall county, was born in New Milford, Connecticut, March 20, 1850. His parents moved to Illinois about 1856 and settled on a farm, and he remained on the farm until the age of 22, receiving a country school education, supplemented with two years in the high school of Ashton, Illinois. Soon after leaving the farm he engaged in the mercantile business, which he continued until 1902, at which time he engaged in the banking business, and in a short time succeeded to the presidency of the bank, which position he has since held. In 1879 he was married to Miss Florence Brayton of Mount Morris, Illinois. They have two sons, Harold and Frederick, who are both engaged in the practice of law. A republican in politics. Elected to the thirty-sixth general assembly in 1914 and re-elected in 1916.
