Representative from Plymouth county, was born near Macomb in the state of Illinois in 1863. Came to Newton, Iowa, with his parents in 1866, traveling in a prairie schooner, and crossing the Mississippi on a flat boat at Keokuk. Received his education in the common schools of Jasper county, Hazel Dell Academy at Newton, Ames College, and is a graduate from the Law College at Iowa City, class of 1889. He began to practice law the same year at Kingsley, Iowa, from which he retired in 1916 to devote his time to his extensive real estate interests, stock raising and farming. He has held many local offices, public and private, including councilman, postmaster and was mayor of Kingsley for many years. Elected representative in 1916. Re-elected in 1918. A republican in politics.
