Representative from the ninety-sixth district, Emmet county, was born in Antrim county, Ireland, January 10, 1851. In 1856, his parents moved to Ontario, Canada, where he gained his education in the public schools of West Monkton, Canada. In 1864, they moved to Fulton, Illinois. In 1879 he came to Iowa and settled in Grundy Center, engaged in blacksmithing and later took up the sale of agricultural implements. In 1890 he was elected mayor of Grundy Center. He was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Dunn, on December 26, 1882, and to this union four daughters were born. In 1892, he moved to Armstrong, Iowa, served three years on the board of supervisors, and two years as president of the school board. He is a member of the M.E. church. Elected representative in 1916. Re-elected in 1918. A republican in politics.

Church, and at present is connected with several prominent enterprises of Armstrong, Iowa. A republican in politics.
