One of the representatives from Wapello county, was born at Hector, Schuyler county, New York, July 6, 1855. His father and mother were both born in Schuyler county. He was born and lived on a farm, and received such education as was afforded in the rural schools. Later he graduated from Colgate Academy at Hamilton, New York, and for two years served as assistant postmaster of that place, after which he took up the study of medicine and received his degree from the Chicago Homeopathic Medical College in 1887. Was married in 1883 to Mrs. Anne Matthews Chase of Chicago, Illinois. He came to Iowa in 1896, first locating in Emmet county and afterwards in Wapello county. He was twice elected coroner of Wapello county, serving from 1910 to 1914. Was elected representative in 1914. Re-elected in 1916 and 1918. Republican in politics.

One of the representatives from Wapello county, was born at Hector, Schuyler county, New York, July 6, 1855. His grandfather, Captain Samuel Hanley, was a pioneer of this section, walking into and settling in the midst of a hardwood forest on the east shore of Seneca Lake about 1797. His father and mother were both born in Schuyler county. He was born and lived on a farm, which was a part of that hewn out of this forest by his grandfather, and received such education as was afforded in the rural schools. Later he graduated from Colgate Academy at Hamilton, New York, and for two years served as assistant postmaster of that place, after which he took up the study of medicine and received his degree of physician and surgeon from the Chicago Homeopathic Medical College in 1887, since which time he has continuously and successfully engaged in the practice of his profession. He was twice elected coroner of Wapello county, serving from 1910 to 1914. Was married in 1883 to Mrs. Anne Matthews Chase of Chicago, Illinois. He came to Iowa in 1896, first locating in Emmet county and afterwards in Wapello county. Was elected representative in 1914. Re-elected in 1916. Republican in politics.
