Representative from Delaware county, was born in Delaware county, January 12, 1861. He grew to manhood on his father's farm; attended the public school until he was seventeen years of age, after which he attended Northwestern College at Galena, Illinois, from which institution he was graduated in 1882. Taught school two terms. In 1887 he entered the mercantile business at Earlville, and remains in that business to this day. He has served as mayor of his home city two terms; on the city council six terms, and as member of board of education for the past twelve years; chairman of Delaware county republican central committee for ten years. Is a member of the Odd Fellows and K.P. lodges; member of the M.E. church. Has served as secretary of the official board of the local church for the past twenty-five years. He was married to Miss Rose Landis of Colesburg, Iowa, in 1896. Elected representative in 1916. Re-elected in 1918. Republican in politics.
