Representative from Mills county, was born on a farm in Mills county in 1876. His parents, Joshua and Almire Durbin, were natives of Ohio and early pioneers in Iowa. His early education was in the rural schools. He graduated from the Western Normal College at Shenandoah in 1896, the law department of the State University in 1898. Entered the banking business at Malvern in 1899, and helped to organize the Malvern National Bank of which he is cashier and a director. Has always been active in farming and stock raising, being a breeder of registered Percheron horses and Short-horn cattle. He was married to Miss Mary Christy on November 27, 1901. They have one daughter, Dorothy. Elected representative in 1916, re-elected in 1918, and is a republican in politics.

He graduated from the Western Normal College at Shenandoah, Iowa, in the normal and commercial courses in 1896, and from the law department of the State University of Iowa in 1898. He began the business of banking at Malvern in 1899. In 1906 he helped to organize the Malvern National Bank of Malvern, Iowa, and is now its cashier and a director therein. During his whole life he has been actively engaged in farming and stock raising, being a breeder of registered Percheron horses and Short-horn cattle, and an ardent advocate of advanced agriculture. He was married to Miss Mary Christy on November 27, 1901. They have one daughter, Dorothy. Elected representative in 1916, and is a republican in politics.
