Representative from Madison county, was born in Washington county, Indiana, April 19, 1857, moving with his parents to a farm in Knox county, Illinois, in 1865. Attended district school, high school at Oneida, finishing his education in Monmouth college. He came to Madison county, Iowa, in 1878 where he taught in the district schools and farmed for a number of years. Moved to Winterset in 1892, engaged in the insurance business. Elected county recorder in 1900, serving two terms. Was postmaster of Winterset from 1908 to 1913. Served three and one-half years as deputy clerk and six months as deputy auditor. Is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Lodge affiliations are: Masonic, Knights of Pythias and M.W.A. Elected representative in 1918 and 1920. A republican in politics.
