Representative from Sioux county, was born in Belpre, Washington County, Ohio, February 25, 1864. In 1867, he came with his parents to Cherokee county, Iowa, and in 1868 moved with them to Calliope, Sioux county. He received his education in the common schools. At the age of fourteen he started to learn the printer's trade in the office of the Sioux County Herald, published at Orange City. In 1880 his father, Rufus Stone, established the Independent at Calliope (now Hawarden) and two months later died, leaving the entire management of the paper to his son who was then only seventeen years of age, being the youngest editor in the state. He is still owner and publisher of the paper established by his father. Was postmaster of Hawarden from 1885 to 1889. He was united in marriage with Miss Generzia Dunham of Albion, Marshall county, Iowa, December 25, 1884. Mrs. Stone died August 28, 1918. Elected representative in 1914. Re-elected in 1916, 1918 and 1920. Republican in politics. Representative Stone died during the session of the Thirty-ninth General Assembly.

In 1880 his father, Rufus Stone, established the Independent at Calliope (now Hawarden) and placed the subject of this sketch in charge of the mechanical department. Two months later his father died which left the entire management of the paper upon the young man. He was then only seventeen years of age and for several years held the distinction of being the youngest editor in the state. He is still owner and publisher of the paper established by his father. Was postmaster of Hawarden from 1885 to 1889. He was united in marriage with Miss Generzia Dunham of Albion, Marshall county, Iowa, December 25, 1884. Elected representative in 1914.
