Was born November 25, 1873 at Osage, Iowa. Moved with parents to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1881. Completed the work of the Spirit Lake High school and later entered the State University of Iowa in the law department. Entered the banking business in Laurens, Iowa in 1896. In 1902 moved to Spirit Lake, where he has since resided. Married April 20, 1898 to Anna H. Wiss of Laurens, Iowa. Elected representative in 1920. Republican in politics.
