Representative from Cerro Gordo county, was born on a farm near Postville, Allamakee county, Iowa, on June 8, 1861, of Scotch parentage. He engaged in the farm implement business at Postville for several years, and from there moved to Waukon, Iowa, where he bought and shipped live stock. Elected county sheriff and held that office from 1894 until 1900. He served as township trustee, member of the school board and other minor positions. In 1903 he moved to Mason City, where he has since been actively engaged in farming and live stock. On May 17, 1885, he married Sophie Jennewine at Waukon, Iowa. He has three children. Elected in 1918 and 1920. Republican in politics.
