Representative from Clay county, was born in Charlotte, Clinton county, Iowa, October 18, 1852. His father was born in Massachusetts and his mother in Illinois. Received his education in the public schools of Charlotte. Worked in the Charlotte flour mill most of the time with his father until his death in 1877, when he took charge of the mill, and operated same until 1890. Was married to Clara A. Dickey of Clinton county, September 19, 1882. In 1891 moved to Clay county and located on a farm near Sioux Rapids. Is interested in the banking business, being president of the Rossie Savings Bank. In 1895 was elected county supervisor of Clay county and served until January 1, 1912, being chairman for twelve years. Elected representative in 1914 and re-elected in 1916-18 and '20. Is a member of the Masonic and Woodmen lodges. A republican in politics.
