Representative from Allamakee county, was born on a farm near Waukon. At the age of sixteen years he took a position with one of the leading mercantile firms of Waukon and continued in their employment for about five years, and at the end of that time he went into business for himself, in which he continued until 1912. Was one of the organizers of the Peoples' National bank and was elected president of that institution, which position he now holds. He is a member of the Reformed church, also a member of the Masonic, Knights of Pythias and the Woodmen lodges. Member of the city council for a number of years; also elected mayor of the city of Waukon. Has always been a democrat in politics.
