Representative from Calhoun county, was born at Reigate, England, February 18, 1855, coming to the United States with his parents at the age of twelve. His parents lived in Chicago and Sterling, Ill., for a few months and then settled upon a new farm in Lee county, Ill. When a boy, attended the district school and afterward the Rock River seminary at Dixon, Ill. He came to Calhoun county, Iowa,, in the spring of 1878, and engaged in farming and stock raising until he moved to the town of Farnhamville in 1898. He was married to Mary H. Clutter in February, 1898. Was mayor of Farnhamville for fourteen years; a member of the board of supervisors for six years and held various other township and town offices. He was elected representative in 1918, 1920 and 1922. Republican in politics.
