He received his education in the rural schools of his county and in the state teachers' college at Cedar Falls, from which institution he graduated in 1898. For two years after his graduation he was principal of the schools at Fairbank, Iowa. Since that time he has been engaged in farming except from January 1, 1905, to January 1, 1913, during which time he served as clerk of the district court of his county. In the fall of 1914 he was elected to the legislature from the ninety-fifth representative district. Re-elected in 1916, 1918, 1920 and 1922. Speaker of the fortieth general assembly. A republican in politics.
