Representative from Madison county, was born in that county in 1871; attended high school at Winterset; graduated from the Madison County Normal Institute and attended Leander Clark college at Toledo, Iowa. Taught school a number of years and has since followed the vocation of farming. He was married on April 4, 1900, to Sarah E. Thompson, of Stuart, Iowa; to this union were born five children, only two of whom are now living, Mrs. Estella Brittain Mosby and Miss Mildred M. Brittain, both of Winterset, Iowa. Mr. Brittain has been active in local politics and in farm organizations, having acted as director, secretary and president of the Madison County Farm Bureau. He is also a director in the Farmer's Co-operative Association of Winterset, having served as secretary-treasurer during the construction period. He is a member of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, of Madison Lodge No. 136, I.O.O.F., and of Crown Rebecca Lodge No. 360. Was elected representative from Madison county in 1922, and re-elected in 1924. Has been a life-long republican.
