Representative from Lyon county, was born March 16, 1878, in Scott county, Iowa. Came to Lyon county in 1885. Attended the district school and later the Rock Rapids high school. He then entered Northwestern Union college at Le Mars, Iowa, graduating after two years, from their commercial course. He completed a course in law and was admitted to the bar of this state. Taught in the rural schools, and then took up the occupation of farming. Married in 1905 to Ella Rohde. Has one daughter, Elva. Secretary of a township school board fourteen years, and active in community organization work. President of the farm bureau from 1919 to 1923. Elected state representative in 1924 and has served continuously in the forty-first, forty-second, forty-second extra, forty-third, and forty-fourth general assemblies. Member of the Congregational church, I.O.O.F. and Masonic orders. A democrat.

Was secretary of a township school board fourteen years, secretary and director of the Farmers' Elevator Company of Alvord, Iowa, fifteen years, president of the Lyon County Farm Bureau 1919-1923, and treasurer of the bureau in 1924. Was elected representative in 1924 on the democratic ticket and re-elected in 1926 and 1928. Member of the Congregational church, Masonic order, I.O.O.F. and other fraternal organizations.
