He is president of the board of education of the independent school district of Knoxville, a member of the national council of the Y.M.C.A., member of the state committee of the Y.M.C.A., a member of the Masonic lodge. Married Pearl Eastburn July 31, 1907, and has four children. Elected to legislature in 1924, re-elected in 1926, 1928, and 1930. Chosen speaker of the house of representatives of the forty-third general assembly. Republican in politics.
