Representative from Taylor county, was born near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, October 14, 1864. In the spring of 1887, he came to Hancock county, Illinois, where he was engaged as a farm hand. In the fall of 1892, he was married to Alice Anderson of Disco, Illinois, and they immediately moved to Taylor county, Iowa, and began housekeeping on the farm they still own and on which they continued to live until the spring of 1925, when they moved to New Market. Two children were born to them, Bertha Madden, who passed from this life December, 1931, and Byard L., living on the home farm. Has been engaged in cattle feeding and breeding of purebred stock. Member of Methodist church, I.O.O.F. and Farmers Union. Elected representative from Taylor county in 1930; re-elected in 1932. A democrat.

Representative from Taylor county, was born near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, October 14, 1864. He was educated in the rural schools. In the spring of 1887 he came to Hancock county, Illinois, where he was engaged in working by the month on a farm. In the fall of 1892 he was married to Alice Anderson of Disco, Illinois. They immediately came to Taylor county, Iowa, and began housekeeping on the farm they still own and on which they continued to live until the spring of 1925 when they moved to New Market. They have two children, Bertha Madden, living near the old home north of New Market and Byard L., living on the home place. While living on the farm he bred and showed purebred stock with marked success besides feeding cattle. A member of the Methodist church, Farmers Union, Modern Woodmen and subordinate and encampment branches of the I.O.O.F. A democrat in politics.
