Representative from Buchanan county, was born November 1, 1891, on a farm in that county. Graduated from Lamont high school in 1908. Attended Lenox college, 1909. Graduated Iowa State college, 1914. Head of dairy husbandry department, University of West Virginia, Morgantown, W. Va., 1915. Served two years World war, 2nd Lieutenant, balloon division, aviation section, A.E.F. Licensed balloon pilot. Beef cattle specialist, bureau of animal industry, Washington, D.C, 1919. Married Iva M. Allen, Castalia, Iowa, in 1924, has two sons, John I. and Jay D. Charter member Eta chapter, Alpha Gamma Rho, social fraternity. Member Alpha Zeta, honorary agricultural fraternity. Charter member and first commander of Loren Foster post, American Legion, Lamont, Iowa. Engaged in automobile business, 1920-1923. Started farming in 1924 and is still engaged in that occupation. Also operated a retail meat and grocery business from 1929 to 1933. Member of allotment committee, Buchanan county corn-hog control association in 1934. Breeder of purebred Aberdeen Angus cattle. Serving first term in legislature. A democrat.
