Representative from Muscatine county, was born in Sandusky county, Ohio, and came to Iowa in a covered wagon with his parents, Reuben and Melissa Metcalf, in 1868, when nine months old. His father died when he was nine years old, and he had to help with farm work during summer, while attending school in winter. At the age of twenty commenced farming for himself and four years later, April 6, 1893, married Ina G. Hankins, and has two children, Clarence and Alberta. He and his son operate their 620 acres, grain farming and live stock feeding. Member of Christian church; Masonic Mohassen Grotto; I.O.O.F.; Modern Woodmen; and Royal Neighbor lodges. Served as mayor and councilman, and twenty successive years on school board of independent district. Serving second term in the legislature. A democrat.
