Representative from Humboldt county, was born on a farm, February 28, 1870, at Meriden, Illinois. Came to Humboldt county February, 1881. Attended public schools and lived on a farm. Attended Northern Illinois normal school and Dixon business college 1887 to 1892. Taught school in Humboldt and Webster counties, Iowa, 1892 to 1893. Operated a farmers cooperative creamery at Badger, Iowa, 1894. Farmed in Humboldt county, 1895 to 1900. Held the offices of township trustee, township assessor and member of school board in Beaver township, Humboldt county, Iowa. Elected county auditor of Humboldt county in 1900. Served as county attorney of Humboldt county; member of town council of Humboldt; mayor of town council of Humboldt; member of school board of Humboldt; member of exemption board for Humboldt county during war. Admitted to the bar and practiced law in Humboldt since 1907. Married, 1893, to Anna Johnson of Humboldt county, Iowa, and has eight children—four boys and four girls. A Congregationalist, Mason and Odd Fellow. Serving first term in the legislature. A republican.
