Representative from Wapello county, was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, August 21, 1906. His parents, Charles C. Ayres and Nellie (Fullen) Ayres, were pioneer residents of Iowa, having been born in Agency, Iowa. When he was five his parents moved to Chicago, where he and his brother Harold attended the public schools. At sixteen years of age he graduated from the Wheaton high school at Wheaton, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where his parents resided. Upon graduation he accepted a position with the Great Northern Life Insurance Company and worked both in the office and as a general agent on the sales force. Following in the footsteps of his father he decided to take up law as a profession and came back to Ottumwa where he read law with Lloyd L. Duke, and in June, 1932, passed the state bar examination at Iowa City, Iowa. He immediately opened a law office at Ottumwa, and has been in the active practice there ever since. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Serving his first term in the legislature. He is unmarried. A democrat.
