Representative from Hamilton county, was born November 2, 1872, on a farm in Hamilton county which he now owns. Was educated in the rural schools and has always operated his own farm. Son of Jackson Groves who came to Iowa from Virginia and Jane Dressler Groves who came from Pennsylvania both in the early sixties. Married in 1893, to Mary A. Branch to whom was born three daughters and one son. Has always been interested in cooperative movements not only of farmers but of farmers and business men. Served in the forty-sixth and forty-sixth extra and forty-seventh general assemblies. A democrat.

Representative from Hamilton county, was born November 2, 1872, on a farm in Hamilton county, which he now owns and which has never been out of the Groves name. Son of Jackson Groves who came to Iowa from Virginia in 1863, and Jane Dressler Groves who came from Pennsylvania in 1865. Educated in the country schools of Hamilton county, and being left an orphan at nine years of age by the death of his father in 1881, was never privileged to attend even high school as he and an older brother were compelled to take charge of the farm to support a widowed mother. Married in 1893 to Mary A. Branch to whom were born three daughters and one son. His daughter resides on the old homestead with a young daughter, thus making four generations who have made the same farm their home, and lived in the same house. Was president of the Hamilton county farm bureau six years, president for two years, of the farmers grain company of Webster City. Has been president of the Hamilton county warehouse board since its organization. The first democrat to represent Hamilton county in the legislature. Serving first term. A democrat.
