Representative of Madison county, was born on Madison county farm, March 14, 1886. Received early education in rural school and graduated from Winterset high school in 1907. Graduated from Capital City Commercial College in 1910. Taught school and operated Madison county farm. Employed in Madison county auditor's office from 1927 to January 1, 1937. Served three and one-half terms as county auditor. Married to Ruth Simmons, in Armstrong, Missouri, in 1921, and has two sons, Melvin and Donald. Is a member of Methodist church, Masonic lodge, K. of P. lodge. Served two years on city council at Winterset, and is at present, a special representative of the New York Life Insurance Company. Elected representative in 1936. A republican.
