Representative from Polk county, was born in Greenfield, Iowa, November 11, 1876, and was educated in the public schools of Adair county; graduated from the Capital City Commercial College of Des Moines, Iowa, in 1895; was two years an official court reporter in the tenth judicial district of Iowa, and was two years secretary in the office of Governor Leslie M. Shaw; was admitted to the bar of Iowa in January, 1900, and graduated from the law department of Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, in June, 1900; began practicing law in Stuart, Iowa, in November, 1900, and served as county attorney for Adair county for two terms; served in the forty-fourth general assembly as one of the representatives from Polk county. Wife's name is Katherine Brown whom he married in Delaware county, Iowa, in May, 1900; has no children. Has been practicing law in Des Moines since October, 1914. Is a member of the First Methodist church and of the Masonic bodies, including the Shrine. Elected representative in 1936. A republican.

Representative from Polk county, was born in Adair county, November 11, 1876. Attended the public schools in Greenfield, and later the Capital City Commercial College, Des Moines, graduating in 1895; official court reporter two years in the tenth district, under appointment by Judge J. J. Tollerton, of Cedar Falls; confidential secretary for Governor Leslie M. Shaw two years. Attended Drake University, law department, graduating in June, 1900; admitted to the bar January, 1900, and commenced the practice of law at Stuart, Iowa, in November, 1900, where he practiced seven years. Elected county attorney Adair county and served two terms. Returned to Des Moines in 1914, and was associated with James B. Weaver of Des Moines fifteen years. January 1, 1930, he formed a partnership with Paul G. James and Dring D. Needham, and is now practicing law in Des Moines under the firm name of Brown, James & Needham. Became active in Polk county politics after he came here in 1914, and was elected to the forty-fourth general assembly November 4, 1930. Is a member of the First Methodist church of Des Moines and of the Masonic bodies, including Za-Ga-Zig Temple of the Shrine. He married in 1900 Katherine Cowell of Manchester, Iowa.
