Onawa Monona County Republican. Born at Onawa, Iowa, October 23, 1898. Attended the public schools there, the National Business College at Sioux City, and the Hohenshuh-Carpenter College of Embalming. Mr. Ropes served as Monona county auditor from 1925 to 1933, and was with the Iowa State Banking Department from 1933 to 1936. Has been chairman of the Monona County Republican Central Committee, commander of the David McNiell Post, American Legion; and president of the Onawa Commercial Club. During World War, was in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy, serving at naval bases in Ireland, Italy and France. Married Cora Grapes of Blencoe, Iowa, and has two children Majayne and John Milton. Now engaged in a real estate and insurance business. Serving first term in the legislature.
