Independence Buchanan County Republican. Born in Independence, Iowa, May 7, 1879. His parents, Alexander A. Hathaway and Mary A. Hathaway were pioneer residents of Buchanan county. Educated in local schools; married to Clara I. Ryan of Independence in 1908; farmed several years and engaged in breeding and showing of purebred Holstein cattle. He was in the employ of the Rock Island railroad for four years, and has been a mail messenger for the last several years. Served as city councilman. Serving second term in legislature.
