Sioux City Woodbury County Republican. Born at Newport, Washington county, Ohio, the son of an officer of the Civil War. With his parents, came to Sioux City, Iowa, in 1882, in which city he has been resident subsequently. A member of the Masonic order and Presbyterian church. For many years was connected with the wholesale grocery business. From 1928 to 1933, he was sheriff of Woodbury county. He was a member of the 52nd regiment during the Spanish-American War. Married and has one son, Samuel R. Davenport, Ph.D., of State Teachers' College at Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Serving first term as representative.
