Clarence Cedar County Republican Son of Charles and Sarah E. Smith, born in the house he has always since called his home in Clarence, Iowa, July 27, 1903. Graduated from the Clarence high school in 1920; from the Iowa State Teachers College in 1924; following this with a year of post-graduate work in Drake University. United with the Church of Christ in early manhood, entered the ministry and has served several churches of that group in eastern Iowa. Married to Alsa Bowers of Dunkerton in 1926; father of two sons, Barton and Forest. Last twelve years has served as justice of the peace. Second term in the legislature.
