Des Moines Polk County Democrat Born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, March 20, 1875. Attended grade school in Lewiston, Idaho; high school in Omaha, Nebraska. Mercantile salesman covering Iowa till 1910. Engaged in shoe business in Des Moines from 1911 to 1935. Has been president of the Retail Merchants Ass'n., president of the Iowa Shoe Dealers Ass'n., director of The Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, and vice president of the Des Moines Advertising Club. Retired from business in 1936. Has three children: Dorothy, Gertrude and John. Member of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Des Moines. Serving first term in the legislature.
