Served in World War I with the American expeditionary forces, Company M, 11th Regiment, U.S. Marines. Married Ruth Ray of Hampton, Iowa, October 4, 1920. Father of three children: James Robert, Ruth Eleanor, and Marilyn Joyce. Head of retail dairy business in Iowa City. Expanded plant in 1932 to include pasteurizing and processing milk, ice cream, butter and other dairy products. Operates a farm and maintains a herd of Guernsey cattle. Active in community affairs. Member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Elks and Moose lodges. Past president Iowa City Rotary Club. Serving third term. Appointed by the Governor to State Highway Commission; term beginning July 1, 1945.
