Exira Audubon County Republican Born on a farm near Exira, Audubon county, Iowa, October 17, 1897, the son of Martin A. and Sorina Aagaard Jessen, who were both born in Schleswig, Holstein. Educated in Audubon county schools and farmed near Exira until 1917 when he went to Detroit to work. In 1918 enlisted in the United States Army Air Service at Mitchell Field, Long Island. After the war was an automobile mechanic, then a salesman for the Delco light company. Later went into the oil business and now owns businesses at Exira, Elkhorn, Kimballton and Harlan. Married Helena Nelsen of Exira October 17, 1922. Has two children, Frederick Nelsen, a lieutenant in the marines, and Virginia Elaine, a student at the State University. Member of Danish Lutheran church, American Legion, Knights of Pythias; is a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner, Knight Templar and Eastern Star. Past president of the Exira Independent School Board. Served in 49th, 50th, 50th Ex and 51st sessions.
